Creating and Managing MetaBlocks

This chapter describes how to view, create, edit, and delete a MetaBlock.

Viewing MetaBlocks #

The MetaBlocks page (Left menu > MetaBlocks icon) displays information about existing MetaBlocks.

  • Name. Name of the MetaBlock.
  • Description. Description of the MetaBlock
  • Dependencies. These icons represent objects in Luciudm (Dashboards, Connectors, Actions, SmartLabels, Saved Queries) and displays the number of each type of object aligned with the MetaBlock. For details, see Viewing All Content in a MetaBlock
  • Created On. Date and time the MetaBlock was created.
  • Created By. Lucidum user who created the MetaBlock.
  • Actions. Tasks to manage each MetaBlock.
    • Edit. You can edit the description of a MetaBlock.
    • Delete (trashcan) icon. Deletes the MetaBlock.

      NOTE: You cannot delete a MetaBlock that includes aligned objects. To delete the MetaBlock, you must first unalign the objects. For details on unaligning objects from a MetaBlock and deleting a MetaBlock, see Deleting MetaBlocks.

Creating MetaBlocks #

  1. Navigate to the MetaBlocks page (Left menu > MetaBlocks icon).
  2. Click the Add MetaBlock icon (plus-sign) in the upper right.

  3. In the Add MetaBlock page, enter the following in the top pane:
    • Name. Name of the MetaBlock. Must be unique among all MetaBlocks.
    • Description. Description of the MetaBlock.

    NOTE: You cannot edit the Name or Description of a MetaBlock. Be sure to use a name and description that are helpful and easily understood.

Adding and Deleting Actions to MetaBlocks #

Viewing All Content in a MetaBlock #

There are two way to view the content aligned with a MetaBlock:

  • From the MetaBlock page, you can view all content in a MetaBlock.
  • From the Query Tool, you can view the SmartLabels in a MetaBlock.

From the MetaBocks page #

The MetaBlocks page (Left menu > MetaBlocks icon) displays information about existing MetaBlocks, including all the Lucidum objects aligned with the MetaBlock.

To view the objects aligned with a a MetaBlock:

  1. Navigate to the MetaBlocks page (Left menu > MetaBlocks icon).

  2. Find the MetaBlock you are interested in.
  3. The Dependencies column includes icons with a count number. The count number indicates the number of objects aligned with the MetaBlock.
    1. Dashboards
    2. Connectors
    3. Actions
    4. SmartLabels
    5. Saved Queries
  4. Clicking on the Dashboards dependencies icon displays the View Dashboard Dependencies for MetaBlocks modal page:

  5. The View Dashboard Dependencies for MetaBlocks page displays the following:
    • Type. The icon for dashboard dependencies.
    • Dependency Name. Name of the dashboard aligned with the MetaBlock. Clicking on the link loads the dashboard.
    • Created By. Lucidum user who created the dashboard.
  6. Clicking on the Connectors dependencies icon displays the View Connector Dependencies for MetaBlocks modal page:

  7. The View Connector Dependencies for MetaBlocks page displays the following:
    • Type. The icon for connector dependencies.
    • Dependency Name. Name of the connector aligned with the MetaBlock. Clicking on the link leads to the Connector page, with the aligned profile highlighted.
    • Created By. Lucidum user who created the connector profile.
  8. Clicking on the Actions dependencies icon displays the View Action Dependencies for MetaBlocks modal page:

  9. The View Actions Dependencies for MetaBlocks page displays the following:
    • Type. The icon for action dependencies.
    • Dependency Name. Name of the action aligned with the MetaBlock. Clicking on the link leads to the Actions page, with the aligned profile highlighted.
    • Created By. Lucidum user who created the configured action.
  10. Clicking on the SmartLabel dependencies icon displays the View SmartLabel Dependencies for MetaBlocks modal page:

  11. The View SmartLabel Dependencies for MetaBlocks page displays the following:
    • Type. The icon for SmartLabel dependencies.
    • Dependency Name. Name of the SmartLabel aligned with the MetaBlock. Clicking on the link leads to the Edit SmartLabel page, loaded with information from the selected SmartLabel.
    • Created By. Lucidum user who created the SmartLabel.
  12. Clicking on the Saved Query dependencies icon displays the View Saved Query Dashboard Dependencies for MetaBlocks modal page:

  13. The View Saved Query Dependencies for MetaBlocks page displays the following:
    • Type. The icon for Saved Query dependencies.
    • Dependency Name. Name of the Saved Query aligned with the MetaBlock. Clicking on the link opens the Edit Query page, loaded with information from the selected Saved Query
    • Created By. Lucidum user who created the Saved Query.

From the Query Tool #

You can view the SmartLabels in a MetaBlock from the Query Tool. To do so:

  1. Click the Query button in the upper right of any page in Lucidum or see Accessing the Query Tool for other ways to access the Query Tool.
  2. In the Build a Query page, specify the Type of Data and Time Range. For details, see see Accessing the Query Tool.
  3. Click Next.
  4. In the Building a Query page, click the Field field.

  5. In the Categories bar, select MetaBlocks.
  6. The Query Tool displays the SmartLabels in each MetaBlock.
  7. Clicking on a SmartLabel or a Saved Query in a MetaBlock loads the selected SmartLabel or Saved Query in the Query Tool.

Deleting MetaBlocks #

To delete a MetaBlock:

  1. Go to the MetaBlocks page (Left menu > MetaBlocks icon).
  2. Find the MetaBlock you want to delete.
  3. Click the Delete (trashcan) icon.

    NOTE: You cannot delete a MetaBlock that includes aligned Actions, Connectors, Dashbords, Saved Queries, or SmartLabels. To delete the MetaBlock, you must first unalign all aligned items. You can use the Dependencies column to quickly navigate to each dependency.

  5. Best practice is to create a new MetaBlock, assign the same dependencies to the new MetaBlock as are assigned to the MetaBlock you want to delete, and then delete the dependencies from the older MetaBlock.
